چکیده

The comparison of form factors calculated from a single-particle current in different relativistic quantum mechanic approaches evidences tremendous discrepancies. The role of constraints coming from space-time translations is considered here with this respect. It is known that invariance under these translations implies the energy-momentum conservation relation that is usually assumed to hold globally. Transformations of the current under these translations, which lead to this result, also imply constraints that have been ignored so far in relativistic quantummechanic approaches. An implementation of these constraints is discussed in the case of a model with two scalar constituents. It amounts to incorporate selected two-body currents to all orders in the interaction. Discrepancies for form factors in different approaches can thus be removed, contributing to restore the equivalence of different approaches. Results for the standard front-form approach (q+ = 0) are found to fulfill the constraints and are therefore unchanged. The relation with results from a dispersion-relation approach is also made.

Form factors in RQM approaches: constraints from space-time translations, extension to constituents with spin-1/2 and unequal masses

Constraints related to transformations of currents under space-time translations have been considered for the relativistic quantum mechanics calculation of form factors of J = 0 systems composed of scalar constituents with equal masses. Accounting for these constraints amounts to take into account many-body currents that restore the equality of the momentum transferred separately to the system ...

5 Form Factors in Relativistic Quantum Mechanics Approaches and Space - Time Translation Invariance

Invariance of form factors under Lorentz boosts is a criterion often advocated to determine whether their estimate in a RQM framework is reliable. It is shown that verifying relations stemming from covariance properties under space-time translations could be a more important criterion. Form factors calculated in different approaches for a simple system are discussed with these various respects....

Different approaches have been applied to the calculation of form factors of various hadronic systems within relativistic quantum mechanics. In a one-body current approximation , they can lead to results evidencing large discrepancies. Looking for an explanation of this spreading, it is shown that, for the largest part, these discrepancies can be related to a violation of Poincaré space-time tr...

Form factors in relativistic quantum mechanics : Is there a favored approach ? Why ?

Form factors of a simple system have been calculated in various forms of rela-tivistic quantum mechanics, using a single-particle current. Their comparison has shown large discrepancies. The comparison is extended here to instant-and front-form calculations in unusual momentum configurations as well as to a point-form approach inspired from the Dirac's one (based on a hyperboloid surface). It i...

The Analysis of Time-space Translations in Quantum Fields

I discuss the indefinite metrical structure of the time-space translations asrealized in the indefinite inner products for relativistic quantum fields, familiarin the example of quantum gauge fields. The arising indefinite unitary nondiag-onalizable representations of the translations suggest as the positive unitaritycondition for the probability interpretable positive defin...
